Not Getting There

 Sometimes

The mug takes a tumble

Right off the counter

It's swept into the trash

But the mess is made

Sometimes

The dirt gets tracked

Across the living room

And kitchen and into the bedroom

It's wet and will be crumbly soon

Sometimes

We already got the raise

So we need to prepare for

Three more years of disappointment

Hard work for nothing

Sometimes

We might be trying too hard

And the answer is to take a break

Even when we don't want to

All we want to do is keep trying

Sometimes

It's better to ignore the nonsense

Keep our eyes where they belong

And stay steadily engaged with the wonderful world

The surrounds, encompasses, and engulfs us

Here, every day

The same as the last

Ready for tomorrow

Prepared from yesterday
